EX LIBRIS is a solo roleplaying game that lets you experience an adventure by following the course of a novel from your bookshelf. Randomly generate a Hero from the text, then play through a series of scenes as you progress to the end of the book!

Character Creation

Character creation involves extracting key elements from the first chapter of a chosen book. 

The player notes the first place, first person, three relevant adjectives, three verbs/nouns indicating skills or experiences, and three possessions (objects or abstract). 

These elements define the character’s traits, abilities, and items, which will guide the storytelling throughout the game. 

The player then describes their character and sets the scene for the prologue, using the context and the extracted elements to shape the character’s role and motivations.

Game Turn

In each game turn, the player rolls 2d6 and advances through the book by the number of pages indicated by the dice roll. The context for the scene is determined by the first sentence on the corresponding page. 

The player then describes the scene, using the character's traits, skills, and possessions to guide the narrative. 

If a double is rolled, a flashback is triggered, and the player reflects on a key memory related to one of the character’s traits, skills, or possessions. 

The game progresses until the player reaches the end of the book, where the final scene provides the epilogue.
